The Singapore Food Authority (SFA) told Stomp that it is investigating an incident where a woman found plastic bits in a meal ordered from Maki-San at SingPost Centre.

Stomper ET alerted Stomp to the incident after she had ordered a $12.20 salad from Maki-San via Deliveroo on Dec 17 at 12pm.

She told Stomp that the dressing for the salad came in a separate container.

After mixing it into the salad, she bit onto what felt like plastic pieces.

Following a search, she found a big piece of plastic as well as broken plastic bits in the smaller container the dressing had been in.

She believes the plastic is from some sort of dispenser.

The Stomper said she felt "quite disgusted" and found the incident "quite shocking" as she nearly swallowed the plastic bits.

She immediately reported the matter to SFA and Deliveroo and said the food delivery service refunded her money and gave her credits.

She hopes that by sharing her experience, consumers and businesses will be more careful.

In response to a Stomp query, an SFA spokesman said: "SFA received feedback on plastic pieces allegedly found in a container of mayonnaise that was served with a meal ordered through a delivery mobile app from a food shop at SingPost Centre.

"SFA is investigating the matter.

"Food safety is a joint responsibility.

"Food operators are required to adhere to good food hygiene and preparation practices.

"SFA conducts regular inspections of food retail establishments to ensure compliance with hygiene standards, and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if necessary.

"Members of the public who come across any errant food operator should report to SFA via the online feedback form (https://csp.sfa.gov.sg/feedback)."

Deliveroo told Stomp: "Food safety is an absolute priority for us and we know our customers would expect nothing less.

"Our restaurant partners are required to maintain the standards set in our hygiene policy, and we conduct checks as well as collect and share customer feedback regularly, to ensure food quality standards are satisfactory.

"In this particular case, the high standards we expect of our restaurant partners were unfortunately not met.

"Aside from processing a full refund to the customer, we are in the process of speaking to the restaurant to understand more and will work closely with them to improve their hygiene standards."
