An MPV was in flames after hitting the rail barrier at the Simei exit of the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) in the wee hours of Sunday morning (Nov 5), according to a witness.

Two Stompers shared videos of the Toyota Vellfire on fire.

Stomper Anonymous said he heard four "explosions" and the vehicle was a "total loss".

Stomper Lim, who lives in the block facing the accident, said: "A car heading down the slip road joining the PIE hit the rail barrier and flipped down the slope. It caught fire immediately.

"I believe the driver and occupants are OK. Another eyewitness saw a couple speaking to the traffic police."

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted at about 2:40am to a fire involving a car along PIE towards Tuas near the Simei Road exit.

SCDF extinguished the fire using a water jet. A person was assessed by an SCDF paramedic and declined to be taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
