A park in Hougang was filled with litter after Deepavali celebrations over the weekend.

Stomper Andrew shared photos taken at the park behind Block 237 Hougang Street 21 on Monday morning (Nov 13).

Numerous litter such as boxes, plastic bags and party items can be seen strewn all over the ground. There was also food waste and leftovers in containers left on at least one table and bench.

Andrew said: "The celebration of light often is commemorated by lighting lamps, and bursting crackers and fireworks. However, the leftovers do not reflect so and leave much to be desired.

"I feel that the people responsible for littering should be ashamed for leaving behind so much rubbish. It is also unfair to other park users and cleaners."

In response to a Stomp query, Aljunied-Hougang Town Council said: "We regret the unpleasant sight that greeted users of the park on Monday morning.

"Our cleaners were onsite the same day to clear the litter left behind by the park users concerned.

"Educational posters will be put up to urge residents and visitors to properly dispose of litter after using the common areas so as not to deny others the use of such shared spaces."

In a separate case, Stomper Jimmy also expressed similar woes about rubbish left behind at Block 165 Stirling Road on the same day.
