A 19-year-old teenager was arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of attempted extortion cases.
The police said in a statement that they received a report on Tuesday (July 16) from a female victim who said that an online acquaintance had threatened to upload confidential information relating to her if she did not transfer money to him.
Officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the teen and arrested him on Wednesday (July 17).
A mobile phone was also seized as a case exhibit.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in other similar incidents.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Those who are convicted of attempted extortion may be jailed for between two and five years and may also be caned.
