Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear singlets and shorts.

A man was caught on video calmly using a pail of water to put out a fire in a rubbish bin next to an HDB block in the middle of the night.

The video was shared by the man's wife, Stomper Leya, who said it happened at Teban Gardens in Jurong early Monday morning (Oct 9).

"I was sleeping when I smelled something burning," recounted the Stomper. "I went out of my room and saw a burning rubbish bin downstairs.

"At that point, I was scared, but my husband managed to put out the fire. I feel happy for him."

She said her husband also called the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted at about 1:10am to a fire at Block 24 Teban Gardens Road.

"The fire involved the contents of a rubbish bin on the ground floor," said the SCDF.

"Members of the public extinguished the fire using a bucket of water prior to SCDF's arrival.

"There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation."
