Police pursues and intercepts 1 of 3 vehicles evading Nicoll Highway roadblock, 3 men arrested

The police pursued and intercepted one of three vehicles that evaded a roadblock by making a three-point turn before the roadblock and driving against the flow of traffic.

The vehicle was intercepted at Syed Alwi Road in Little India and the 44-year-old male driver was arrested for dangerous driving and evading a roadblock.

Officers from Central Police Division were conducting the roadblock along Nicoll Highway towards Mountbatten Road on Aug 22 at about 3.25am.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, police established the identities of the other two drivers, aged 38 and 44, and subsequently arrested them on Aug 22 and 23 respectively. The three vehicles were seized.

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted for the offence of evasion of a roadblock shall be fined up to $10,000, imprisoned for up to seven years, or both. The offence of dangerous driving is punishable by imprisonment of up to 12 months, a fine of up to $5,000 or both.

The police conduct roadblocks to deter and detect crimes. You are advised to cooperate with police officers when approached during roadblocks.

The police said they take a serious view of those who evade roadblocks and perpetrators will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
