Man who allegedly set fire to Ang Mo Kio market arrested within 24 hours

A 52-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire at a market at Block 628 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.

The police said in a statement they received a report at 9.50pm that a fire had broke out at the market.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him in less than 24 hours after the report was lodged.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to have used a lighter to set the fire and to have been involved in another similar case.

Anyone convicted of mischief by fire can be jailed up to seven years and fined.
