Is this meal worth $5.30?

Stomper Poh was left fuming after being served a measly portion of meat at Kimly Coffeeshop in Sembawang on Jan 29, at around 7.05pm.

He had paid an extra $1 to add char siew to his roasted duck rice.

Poh said the stall assistant from the Famous Hong Kong Style Charcoal Roasted Delight stall, located at Block 365 Sembawang Crescent, taunted him when he questioned the price and portion of his meal.

The Stomper recounted: "I ordered takeaway roasted duck rice priced at $4.30. I wanted to add char siew to my order (priced at $5.30).

"There was no char siew hanging at the counter, but I observed two smaller pieces (that seemed like leftovers) placed at the side tray.

"I asked the staff if there was any more char siew available. The answer given was 'yes', but the staff proceeded to take the two-leftover pieces of char siew (about 8g to 9g), smashed them flat and cut them into razor-thin slices for my takeaway packet of food.

"I was charged $1 more and the total price was $5.30.

"I asked the staff why this price with such small portions. Is this packet of food (small portions of roasted duck meat with 8g to 9g of smashed char siew) worth $5.30 or not???

"This staff member showed poor attitude and told me, 'If you can't afford to eat it, it's fine to return the food, I will refund the money to you.'

"I am very disappointed by the staff's poor attitude, and how GST has increased 1% this year but food portions have been reducing to such small portions.

"Furthermore, this stall had already increased their prices by $0.50 in December 2023, before the 9% GST kicked in.

"I am ok with paying $1 more for the char siew add-on, but the weight or amount given to us has to be reasonable.

"The staff should have told me that no more char siew was available and not just proceeded to serve me the 8g to 9g of smashed char siew.

"When I asked the staff for contact details to share feedback, he said there were no contact details and told me to find out by myself.

"I went to the drinks stall to look for the supervisor for help and assistance, but no one was available during the incident and all of them kept saying, 'I don't know' and 'No supervisor'."

Poh pointed out that the stall has received several poor reviews on Google, with one customer echoing a similar experience three months ago.

Like Poh, the customer had also complained about "horrendously pathetic" food portions and thin slices of meat, as well as rude staff.

Poh told Stomp: "I am not the only one who has encountered this. There are many consumers who had shared the same feedback.

"I hope to alert the public and fellow consumers who visit this stall."
