What made the hole in the packet?

A Shopee customer believed the Irvins salted egg instant noodles he ordered were bitten by rats and reported it to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

In response to a Stomp query, SFA said it is looking into the matter.

Stomper Chris, who is the customer, has since received a refund from Shopee.

He had ordered the salted egg instant noodles and other items from Shopee Supermarket on Jan 9.

Delivery was supposed to be on Jan 12, but there was a delay.

"The snacks were meant for me to bring to my relatives in Jakarta. So I asked for cancellation on Jan 17 since they could not deliver as promised, recounted the Stomper.

"On Jan 20, we left for Jakarta and they delivered the package. I told them we would be away for two weeks and these items were no longer useful to us because they were meant for my family in Jakarta.

"To make matters worse, they only delivered part of my order – a box of snacks and Irvins instant noodles with parts bitten by, I assume, rodents."

The Stomper said he threw away the instant noodles and other food items.

"Nobody dared to eat in case of contamination. I'd rather lose the money," he added.

In response to a Stomp query, a Shopee spokesperson said: "We are in touch with the user and have apologised for their unpleasant experience.

"In line with the results of our investigation, we have also issued a full refund for their order.

"We appreciate the trust our customers place in us. We remain committed to delivering exceptional service quality to our users and comply with local regulations and industry standards.

"This includes implementing routine pest control measures to maintain a secure, clean and hygienic environment at our facilities."
