Man allegedly robbed Bukit Batok store of 8 packets of cigarettes while armed with knife

A 40-year-old man who allegedly robbed a store along Bukit Batok Street 52 while armed with a knife was arrested within two hours on Monday (April 19).

The police were alerted to the case of armed robbery at around 4.25am.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly robbed the unit by demanding the victim to open the cash register," said the police in a statement.

"He was allegedly armed with a knife during the commission of the offence and purportedly took eight packets of cigarettes before fleeing the store."

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and store CCTVs, officers from Jurong Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him within two hours of the reported crime.

The man will be charged in court on Tuesday with armed robbery, which carries a penalty of three to 14 years in jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
