Supermarket chain Giant Supermarket has responded to an incident where a customer had found something "white and moving" in a dragonfruit she gave to her daughter.

Stomper Anonymous purchased three dragonfruits from a Giant Supermarket at Sunshine Place on Thursday (July 11) at about 7.30am.

After dinner, at about 8pm on Friday (July 12), the Stomper was in her kitchen when she heard her 9-year-old daughter scream.

She rushed out and asked her daughter: "What happened?"

Anonymous told Stomp: "My daughter likes to play with her food. She was cutting up the dragonfruit and saw something white and moving, looked like it was infested with maggots."

She cut up the remaining two dragonfruits the next day (July 13) and did not find anything wrong with them.

Anonymous said: "The fruits did not look like it was rotting. I just can't believe it."

She also shared with Stomp videos of what she saw.

In response to Stomp queries, a Giant Supermarket spokesman said: “Food safety is our top priority to ensure the health and wellbeing of our customers.

"We conducted an immediate assessment of the other dragon fruits sold in Giant Supermarket at Sunshine Place and can confirm that we have not found any similar issues, or received any other customer complaints.

"Nevertheless, we will be more than happy to provide the affected customer with a full refund or exchange.”
