FairPrice has initiated a full investigation with a supplier after a customer found mould on cheese bought from the chain's supermarket at City Square Mall on Saturday afternoon (Mar 30).

Stomper Linh alerted Stomp to the incident and shared photos of the mouldy parmesan cheese he had bought.

"When we opened the packet at home the next day, we found the cheese was green and mouldy instead of its normal yellow," he said.

He noted that the "Best Before" date on the packet was Aug 21.

In response to a Stomp media query, a FairPrice spokesman said that it has since offered the Stomper a refund and are in contact with him to aid in their investigations.

The spokesman issued the following response:

"FairPrice takes food safety issues very seriously and is committed to uphold a high level of food safety standards.

"To safeguard the interests of our customers, we had removed the product in question at the store to conduct a thorough check upon receiving feedback from the customer on the alleged product issue on 1 April 2019.

"The products were later returned to the shelves after checks on the existing batch showed no anomalies.

"A full investigation into this matter has been initiated with the supplier.

"We have since offered the customer a refund and are in contact with him to aid in our investigations.

"We take the opportunity to assure customers that all food products sold by FairPrice comply with stringent regulatory requirements.

"Customers who find the quality of our fresh produce unsatisfactory can return the product to the same store with their receipt before the stated expiry date for a full refund or exchange."
