A fire broke out in Bukit Panjang in the early hours of Jan 14 and about 100 people were evacuated.

Stomper Vivian shared a video of smoke coming from Block 501 Jelapang Road with Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vehicles at the scene.

"I was woken up by loud noises from outside the window, wondering who was the one shouting non-stop at 3.30am," recounted the Stomper.

"Looking out, what came into my eyes were three fire engines and a few ambulances."

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 3:55am.

About 100 people self-evacuated prior to SCDF's arrival. The fire involved the contents of a bedroom in a fifth-storey flat.

SCDF conducted forcible entry into the unit and extinguished the fire using a water jet.

One person was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Another four people were assessed by paramedics for minor injuries but declined to be taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
