17-year-old girl offers 'lucrative investment' on Instagram, goes MIA after collecting $2,500

A 17-year-old girl was arrested on Thursday (Oct 3) for her suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

The police said that they received multiple reports between Sep 21 and 28, from victims who had purportedly been cheated by the teenager into handing over a total sum of $2,500 to her.

This was after they had responded to an online post on Instagram that offered a lucrative investment opportunity.

However, the teenager became uncontactable after they handed over the money to her.

Through investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the suspect's identity and arrested her. She is believed to be involved in similar cases reported island-wide.

The teenager will be charged in court on Friday (Oct 4) with cheating, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
