Scam victim pays for 'game console' -- but opens box to find old vinyl records and cardboard

A 43-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday (Sep 24) for his suspected involvement in a series of e-commerce scams.

The police said they received a report on Sep 11 from a victim who had purportedly been cheated by an online seller.

The victim had made payment for a game console, which was handed over to him in a sealed box by the seller.

However, the victim later discovered that the box contained old vinyl records and cardboard pieces instead. He also realised that the seller had become uncontactable.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the seller's identity and nabbed him.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved other cases of e-commerce scams, said the police in a statement on Friday (Sep 27).

Investigations are ongoing.

If found guilty of cheating, he may be punished with a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
