AVA investigating suspected case of dog meat sale highlighted by actor Andrew Seow

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) is investigating a case of dog meat for sale highlighted by Growing Up actor Andrew Seow.

The latter alleged in a Facebook post that he had "concrete evidence" that a dog meat seller from Geylang "has been hunting dogs and cats at Tuas".

In October last year (2016), Seow received a Facebook message from a man who said he had killed eight dogs and asked him to try it, saying it tasted good, Shin Min Daily News reported on Friday (Feb 17).

Seow's friend Lim Suu Swen, 21, contacted the seller, posing as a buyer.

They then met at a coffee shop at Lorong 25 in Geylang, where the man allegedly tried to sell her dog meat.

In its response to ST on Friday, AVA said it was investigating the incident.

"The sale of dog meat is not allowed in Singapore," said the AVA spokesman.

She added that AVA has received occasional feedback on alleged slaughtering of dogs for consumption in Singapore.

"We followed up to investigate on all feedback, and have not found evidence to support such allegations thus far," said the spokesman.

All information provided will be kept in strict confidence.

Seow and Ms Lim have also allegedly received threats via Facebook messages this week.

A message from a man identified as "Andy" asked them to visit Geylang Lorong 7 to "settle our problem", saying the pair owed him $80,000 because they "ruined our business" after exposing them.

The man also allegedly said he would beat the pair up if he saw them in public.

Seow made a police report on Thursday (Feb 16) and informed AVA.

The police confirmed with The Straits Times on Friday that a report was lodged.
