Teen arrested after running off with bag containing $81k in cash following meet-up at Punggol

Two men and a teenager have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a case of conspiracy to commit robbery.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to a robbery case at Punggol Field on Nov 18.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 33-year-old man had received an offer from a stranger on Telegram to trade crypto tokens for cash.

At the stranger's instructions, the victim met up with a 16-year-old male teenager at Punggol Field to hand over about $81,000 in cash.

While counting the money, the teen allegedly grabbed the bag containing the cash and fled.

The victim gave chase and stopped the teen who took out a kitchen knife but dropped it.

The teen was detained with the assistance of two men and one woman and was subsequently arrested by the police.

The cash was fully recovered.

Officers established the identities of two other men believed to be involved in the case.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at Circuit Road and a 27-year-old man was arrested along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 on the same day of the report.

The 33-year-old man and 16-year-old teenager will be charged in court on Nov 20 with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police investigations against the 27-year-old man are ongoing.

The police advise members of the public not to carry large amounts of cash with them in public.

When confronted in a robbery, members of the public should remain calm, take note of the perpetrator's physical appearance and distinctive features, and call for the police as soon as possible.
