SMRT train captain brightens commuters' day with special National Day message

Commuters were pleasantly surprised to hear a special greeting from their train captain on National Day (Aug 9).

Stomper Joyce told Stomp that she was travelling on the North-South Line from Orchard to Somerset at about 10.30am when she heard the announcement.

She said her morning was made pleasant because of it.

"This is what the captain said: 'This is your train captain Tan Kian Kuan speaking. On Singapore’s 58th birthday, I'd like to wish everyone, a happy National Day!'

"Yeah, it felt like I am on a plane with a pilot.

"Some of the commuters also reacted by looking around wondering what happened.

"Happy Birthday Singapore!"
