Seller caught smoking while handling fruits: 'He is breaking the rules'

A fruit seller was caught on video smoking a cigarette while handing fruits at a stall near Block 704 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 on Sept 15.

A Stomper shared with Stomp videos of the man arranging some pears while a cigarette was hanging from his mouth.

The videos were taken at about 7.30pm.

"The fruit seller is smoking cigarettes over fruits," said the Stomper.

"He is breaking the rules."

According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), smoking while preparing food is an offence.

Under the Environmental Public Health (Food Hygiene) Regulations, those engaged in the sale or preparation for sale of food should not smoke.

In March last year, a man was fired after he was caught smoking and handling food without gloves in a kitchen at Food Junction at Junction 8.
