A small cockroach was spotted crawling among the condiments on the drinks counter at the Coffee Express 2000 food court in Bras Basah Complex on Aug 22 at 7am.

Stomper N shared photos of the "brown visitor to the pepper and soy sauce" as well as a person behind the counter handling bread with her bare hands.

"Ever wonder what makes yummy kaya toast?" asked the Stomper sarcastically.

"The personal touch of your fingers on my toast with no gloves."

The self-described "innocent Singapore" showed the staff the photos of the cockroach and informed them of "their unhygienic practice" of using bare hands.

"Yet the two ladies at the beverage counter just ignored me with no acknowledgement or apology," said the Stomper, calling it the "worst service".

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said it is looking into the matter.

SFA said: "Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. Members of the public who come across any potentially errant food operator should report to SFA via the online feedback form.

"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices. As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained."
