A fire broke out at City Square Residences along Kitchener Link in the early hours of Wednesday morning (Aug 7).

Stomper Anonymous and Jai alerted Stomp to the fire and shared photos taken at the scene.

Anonymous, who is a resident at the building, said she was woken up by her parents just before 5am before evacuating their apartment..

"My parents heard noises and people screaming that there was a fire and for people to evacuate," she said.

"As we were coming down from our eighth floor apartment, we saw police on the fourth floor.

"I think three floors were affected and the roof was blackened."

Jai, who works nearby told Stomp that the Kitchener Road and Kitchener Link were cordoned off.

"The fire engines were alerted at about 3.50am and were spotted on these roads," he said.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to the fire at about 5am.

"The fire, which involved discarded items, was extinguished by SCDF and SPF using a fire extinguisher, a compressed air foam backpack, and a hose reel," a spokesman said.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
