F&B operator Kopitiam has activated a pest control company after a customer found an insect in his drink while dining at a food court in Jurong East.

Stomper D was having dinner at Kopitiam food court at Jurong East MRT station on Sunday (Jan 19), at around 9.30pm.

He recounted: "I ordered an iced milk tea and halfway through my drink, I felt jelly-like stuff in my mouth.

"To my disgust, it turned out to be a cockroach. Yucks!

"I quickly went to the toilet to wash my mouth."

D, who shared with Stomp photos of the insect, said that he subsequently informed a supervisor at the food court about the incident and was given a refund.

"I have also reported the matter to the authorities," added D.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesman for Kopitiam said: "We thank the diner for the feedback.

"The service quality and hygiene teams were immediately mobilised to conduct an inspection and a small crack was found in one of the walls.

"The pest control company has been activated to do a thorough sweep and to seal up the crack."

According to the spokesman, pest control measures have been carried out at the outlet every fortnight and the last session was on Jan 16.

He added: "We will be contacting the diner to apologse for the unpleasant experience and to provide an update on our findings and remedial actions taken to address this isolated incident.

"We always strive to uphold a high level of hygiene standard in our outlets and will take immediate action to rectify any lapse.

"For any feedback, diners may contact us at our customer service hotline at 6333 3344 or through email at contactus@kopitiam.biz."
