A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were detained after a car chase in Tampines in the early hours of Wednesday (Nov 8).

The police told Stomp that the Traffic Police (TP) were conducting a roadblock along Tampines Avenue 9 at 12.40am when a van stopped and reversed away from the roadblock point.

The van collided with a police car and the 21-year-old male driver fled on foot with his female passenger.

They were detained after a brief pursuit and a TP officer sustained minor injuries resulting from the collision.

The man was arrested for dangerous driving, evasion of roadblock, driving without a licence, using a vehicle without insurance coverage and cheating by personation.

The woman is assisting in ongoing police investigations.

Stomper JK alerted Stomp to the incident and shared photos of the accident scene.

"I was at home when I heard a police siren followed shortly by a loud bang," he said.

"I immediately knew a traffic accident had occurred."

He then looked out of his window and told Stomp he saw police lights and heard people shouting.

He then saw police officers with torchlights running across a field towards a carpark near his block.

"I realised they were chasing after a woman who subsequently got caught in the carpark," he said.

He then went downstairs and saw the woman sitting on the ground, surrounded by officers.

When he walked to the accident scene, he said he saw a man sitting on a kerb being 'told off' by a TP officer for trying to evade them and causing an accident.

He added that more than four police cars and four police motorcycles arrived at the scene followed by an ambulance but noted that the ambulance left about an hour later.

At about 3am, he saw a tow truck taking both the van and police car away.
