Man arrested for loanshark harassment in Yishun within 6 hours

A 46-year-old man will be charged in court on April 3 with loanshark harassment.

The police said they were alerted to the case of of loanshark harassment at a residential unit at Block 790 Yishun Avenue 2 on April 1, at around 4.45pm.

Red paint had been splashed on the main door and gate of the unit.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the man's identity and arrested him on the same day within six hours of the report.

If found guilty of loanshark harassment, he faces a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years in jail and up to six strokes of the cane.

The police said they have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities, adding: "Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
