Man, 38, after splashing Bedok North unit with green paint, pasting debtor's note on gate

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment, the police said in a statement.

On Mar 13 at about 6.40pm, the police were alerted to the case in which green paint was splashed on the front door and gate of a residential unit at Bedok North Street 4.

A debtor's note was pasted on the gate as well.

Officers identified the man and arrested him within four hours.

A mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit and preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment.

He will be charged in court on Mar 15 under the Moneylenders Act.

Those found guilty of loanshark harassment can be fined between $5,000 and $50,000, jailed for up to five years, and caned up to six strokes.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way.
