Gate secured with bicycle lock in Sengkang, man arrested 3 days later for loanshark harassment

A 40-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment in Sengkang.

The police were alerted on March 4 at about 1.15am to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Anchorvale Road, where the front gate was secured with a bicycle lock.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on March 7.

One bicycle lock was seized as case exhibit.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

The man was charged in court on March 9 under the Moneylenders Act.

For first time offenders, loanshark harassment carries a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.
