How masked man who snatched $3.5k and $4.3k gold chains from 2 elderly women got caught

A 27-year-old man who allegedly snatched gold chains from two elderly women was charged on Thursday (Aug 30).

It was earlier reported that the suspect, who was masked, had taken a $3,500 gold necklace from a 72-year-old woman along Woodlands Drive 70.

She had been wearing the accessory for years, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

Following a police report on Aug 25, the man was arrested along Anchorvale Crescent three days later.

He is also believed to be involved in a similar case where another 70-year-old woman's $4,278 gold chain was snatched.

According to Wanbao, the suspect is an Indian construction worker living in Sengkang.

After getting away with his actions the first time, he returned to the location last Saturday and repeated his offence on another victim at a different block.

Both crime scenes were separated by only a road.

Even though the man managed to flee once again, luck was not on his side this time.

During his escape, he took off his mask and had his appearance captured on a nearby CCTV camera, therefore eventually resulting in his arrest.
