After our flag, the Merlion is our most recognisable national symbol.

So just as you would not allow our flag to be sullied, should you allow the Merlion to become stained with brown residue?

That seems to be what happened to the Merlion statue at One Fullerton.

Sharing a 14-second video of the 8.6m icon in Merlion Park, Stomper Lee said: "The Merlion is very dirty and lots of tourists are taking photos of it."

"I have sent feedback via the OneService app, but nothing has been done so far."

The video shows brown stains on the lower half of the Merlion's mouth under the water spout as well as the front of its tail.

In response to a Stomp query, the Singapore Tourism Board said: "The Merlion undergoes regular cleaning and maintenance and was last cleaned on Dec 27, 2022. The Merlion will undergo cleaning and maintenance again next month.

"The brown residue may be the result of sustained exposure to rain in recent weeks."
