A diner was disappointed when the tom yum noodles that she ordered from a coffee shop stall fell short of expectations in terms of both appearance and nutrition value.

Stomper Gym Rat said she visited the ban mian stall at Block 203 Toa Payoh North on Wednesday evening (Oct 11).

She ordered seafood tom yum soup ($6) with noodles ($0.50) for $6.50.

Gym Rat said: "I decided to order it because the stall's signboard said it was 'lower in calories' and even had the Healthier Choice pyramid. The photo showed sliced fish, two prawns, crabstick, tofu, tomato and vegetables in the soup.

"However, what I got was fried fish, two prawns, one crabstick and vegetables. Where is the tofu?

"It is very disappointing as I wanted a healthier meal with more protein, but got the opposite because of the fish being fried and lack of tofu.

"I was also left super thirsty for the rest of the night after the meal, which suggests a ton of salt being used in the soup.

"Should the stall still be displaying the Healthier Choice Symbol in this case? Seems like misrepresentation to me.

"Funny how we try to go for healthier options as encouraged by the Health Promotion Board but yet encounter this kind of thing. It is so difficult to have a cheap and nutritious meal outside despite all the government's initiatives.

Asked if she would consider cooking her own meals instead, Gym Rat told Stomp: "I already do so when I have time, but it is challenging because I have to work in order to survive inflation and the high cost of living."
