Noise from the construction of the Marine Parade MRT station has irritated residents living nearby at Joo Chiat Road.

Stomper Disgruntled wrote, "We hear the ear crushing noise all day long and we get it, we don’t complain even once because we all know the benefit of that train."

"But they’ve now started working overnight."

In a telephone interview, the Stomper said, "This week is the worst. Construction noise every day overnight."

"Let me put it this way. Imagine if you hear the loud clanging sound of the machinery every day as you try to sleep with your children."

The Stomper added that her mother has also complained about the noise which led to her mother developing migraines.

"We support construction but there has to be some kind of noise law that construction work should stop at 10pm."

"It's just inhumane to do so at 3am or 4am!" exclaimed the Stomper.

Currently, guidelines by the National Environment Agency (NEA) on noise pollution stipulates that noise from construction sites should be below 55 decibels from 10pm-7am.

However, according to the Stomper, noise levels are "above 70 (decibels)" which makes sleep "almost impossible".
