Stomper OneTooMany came across a potential fire hazard at the stairwell of Tower 4 at Sims Urban Oasis condominium along Sims Drive at around 1pm on Sep 25.

He noticed that various miscellaneous items had been placed on the stairwell landing on level four, five and six.

Stomp understands that these levels are the lowest levels for residential units in that tower.

In the photos shared by OneTooMany, a piece of luggage as well as some items wrapped in plastic can be seen lying alongside stacks of cardboard boxes.

Another photo also showed a similar stack of cardboard boxes, including a Styrofoam and a plastic box.

"Storage of flammable materials on staircase landings is dangerous and even more dangerous if they are stored on lower floors of the fire escape staircase," said OneTooMany.

"In the event of a fire, there is no escape for all the residents of that tower block.

"Residents on higher floors cannot get to the lowest ground level as the lower floors staircase would be on fire.

"This is highly unacceptable and could cause more deaths in the event of a fire.

"The management and fire department cannot be constantly monitoring the escape staircases.

"It would be good if there were connecting sky bridges or decks for residents to escape to other blocks safely.

"I hope the authorities would immediately enforce this."

Earlier, Stomp reported about an incident of a fire that occurred at Ngee Ann City.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) had to evacuate occupants of Tower B at Ngee Ann City after a pile of trash caught fire at the bottom of a ventilation shaft within a stairwell.

In response to a Stomp media query, the management of Sims Urban Oasis condominium conducted a check at the stairwell at about 4.30pm yesterday (Sep 27) and found that the items were not there anymore.

They do not know who removed the items.
