A 63-year-old woman was left unconscious after getting knocked down by a van while crossing the road in Jurong on Saturday morning (Aug 12).

In response to a Stomp query, the police said they came across the accident along Jurong West Street 41 towards Jurong West Street 42 at about 9.45am.

The pedestrian was unconscious when taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

"A 63-year-old male van driver is assisting with investigations," police added.

According to a Shin Min Daily News report on Sunday, the woman suffered severe head injuries and has yet to regain consciousness.

Her nephew told Shin Min that his aunt had likely been on her way to the market across the road when the accident occurred. Due to her poor eyesight, she might not have noticed the oncoming van.

A photo taken at the accident site shows paramedics attending to the woman, who was lying on the road with a shopping trolley next to her.

Police investigations are ongoing.
