6 Bangladeshi nationals arrested for gang robbery after assaulting man, taking his phone and cash

Six Bangladeshi nationals, aged between 30 and 39, were arrested on Feb 14 over a case of gang robbery along Nicoll Highway.

The police said they were alerted to the case whereby a 38-year-old victim was allegedly assaulted and robbed by the group of six at around 7.54pm.

The victim’s cash and handphone, totalling about $860, were purportedly taken from him.

Following the report, officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive followup investigations and established the identities of the six men.

All were arrested and the stolen handphone was recovered.

Five men will be charged in court on Feb 15 with gang robbery, which carries a jail term of between five years and 20 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

The sixth man will be assisting the police with further investigation.

The police said they will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
