A fire broke out in the kitchen of the Chang Cheng Mee Wah 24-hour coffee shop at Block 848 Yishun Street 81 early Thursday morning (Aug 31).

Stomper Kohji shared a video of flames and smoke coming out of the roof of the two-storey building.

One man can be seen using a water hose to fight the fire before the arrival of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Red Rhino.

Another video of the fire was also posted online.

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 2.10am.

The fire involved contents of a kitchen inside the coffee shop on the first floor and SCDF extinguished it with a water jet.

About 19 people evacuated from the coffee shop prior to SCDF's arrival.

A person was assessed for minor burns but declined to be taken to hospital, said SCDF.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It was reported last year that the coffee shop changed hands for $40 million.
