33-year-old man arrested for allegedly extorting $400 from 52-year-old guy in Yishun

A 33-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of extortion at Block 165 Yishun Ring Road.

On July 25 at about 2.27pm, a 52-year-old man had reported being extorted of cash amounting to $400 by the suspect.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division subsequently conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigative probes.

Their efforts paid off and the suspect was arrested at Block 173 Yishun Ave 7 yesterday (July 28) at about 11.50am.

The suspect was also found in possession of two knives, said the police in a news release.

He will be charged in court today (July 29) with an offence of extortion under Section 385 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

If found guilty, he is liable to a jail term of not less than two years and not more than five years, and with caning.
