A diner was shocked when he paid a whopping $17.50 for a plate of nasi padang at a food court in Orchard on Dec 18.

Stomper Peter shared with Stomp that he had visited the food court at ION Orchard for lunch.

He ordered his rice with one piece of batang fish, some 'small sotong (squid)', vegetables and sambal.

"When I politely commented why so expensive, the lady simply shrugged her shoulders with no explanations," he said.

"It was lunch hour with the normal lunch crowd and I couldn't dispute except to pay for it."

He described the meal as 'excessively overpriced ' and added that $17.50 is too highly-priced for the 'common man' eating at a food court.

"Being a local, it's still much too high for a plate of fish, sotong and vegetables," he said.

"To me, an average-priced nasi padang with two meats and vegetables should never cross $12 to be very fair."
