17 women who advertised sexual services online and carried out vice activities in hotels arrested

Seventeen women, aged between 20 and 42, were arrested for their suspected involvement in vice-related activities following police raids on Aug 30.

The raids were conducted by officers from the Central Police Division at hotels located along Jalan Besar, Smith Street and Tiong Bahru, resulting in the arrests.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the women had advertised their sexual services online and carried out the vice activities in hotels, said the police in a news release.

Investigations are ongoing.

Landlords and hotel owners are advised to ensure that tenants do not carry out vice activities in their premises.

Under the Women’s Charter, first time offender who keeps, manages or assists in the management of a brothel shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $3,000 and/or a jail term of up to three years.

In addition, any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person can be jailed up to five years and fined up to $10,000.
