Good Samaritans come together to rescue cat from Jalan Besar canal

A group of residents came together to rescue a cat that was stranded in a canal in Jalan Besar on Feb 21 at about 6.30pm.

Stomper Grace shared with Stomp footage of passers-by using a myriad of personal items to pull the cat out of the canal next to Jalan Besar Community Club.

The footage showed a man using a net fixed at the end of a pole and another using an umbrella attached to the end of a long stick.

The men worked together with others joining in to make sure they did not fall into the canal as well.

Eventually, through teamwork, the cat was successfully scooped up and lifted to safety.

"Community spirit at its best, Covid or not," said Grace.

"It was very heartwarming to see so many passer-bys trying to help with whatever tools they could find.

"The applause at the end when the cat was rescued was such a proud and unifying moment as a fellow Singaporean."
