Vietnamese proprietor of Bugis minimart fined $7,500 for possessing, selling illegal meat products

The sole proprietor of Hong Trang Nguyen Vietnam Minimart in Bugis was fined $7,500 by the court on April 29 for illegally possessing and selling meat products.

Her name is Nguyen Thi Hong Trang.

A Google search indicates that the minimart at 269 Queen Street #01-241 is permanently closed.

On June 23, 2023, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) officers conducted an inspection and found about 16.5kg of assorted meat products displayed for sale on the premises.

Imported from unaccredited sources in Vietnam and China without valid import licences, the products were seized by SFA.

"Illegally imported food products of unknown sources can pose a food safety risk. Food can only be imported by licensed importers, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied with a valid import permit," said SFA in a news statement.

"In addition, meat and its products can only be imported from accredited sources in approved countries that comply with our food safety requirements."

Offenders found in possession for the purpose of selling meat and meat products that are illegally imported shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $50,000 and/or imprisonment of up to two years.

In the case of a subsequent conviction, offenders shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $100,000 and/or imprisonment of up to three years.
