Song Fish Dealer fined $20,000 for multiple offences: SFA

Song Fish Dealer was fined $20,000 for multiple offences under the Wholesome Meat and Fish Act, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said in a statement.

In February 2022, Song Fish had failed to arrange for SFA to inspect, examine and certify a consignment of frozen smoked duck breast.

Song Fish subsequently sold part of the uninspected consignment.

Importers must arrange for imported meat and fish products to be inspected, examined and certified by SFA before they are sold, distributed or exported.

Meat and fish products which are found to be unfit for human consumption will be seized and disposed.

Offenders who fail to arrange for meat and fish products to be inspected, examined and certified by SFA before it is sold or distributed can be fined up to $10,000, or jailed for up to 12 months, or both.

Offenders who sold their meat and fish consignments which had not been inspected can be fined up to $50,000 or give up to two years' jail, or both.

Repeat offenders can be fined up to $100,000 or jailed up to three years, or both.

In March 2022, SFA officers conducted an inspection at Song Fish premises at Fishery Port Road and discovered 276 cartons of 'Patagonian Toothfish' with their original labels removed.

The original labels contained details such as the weight, the country of origin as well as the production and expiry date,

These were replaced with labels with only handwritten information on the weight.

SFA said every pack of meat, fish or egg product must be clearly marked and date labelled to ensure traceability of producer and the lot number.

Offenders can be fined up to $50,000 or give up to two years' jail or both.

Repeat offenders can be fined up to $100,000 or give up to three years' jail, or both.

Members who come across such illegal activities are encouraged to provide feedback via SFA's online feedback form (www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback) or to call the agency's contact centre at 68052871 with details for their follow-up investigations.
