Uncle rescued from drain in Telok Kurau was trying to release turtles there when he slipped, says witness

A man was rescued from a large drain by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in Telok Kurau on Sunday morning (Sept 17).

Facebook user Sam Young shared photos of the incident in the SG PCN Cyclist group the same morning.

He recounted in the post: "While cycling at Terok Kurau PCN (Park Connector Network), saw this uncle in the drain unable to climb up, too weak and slippery.

"He was unable to move. The water level of the canal was getting higher. I managed to get a long ladder from the neighbourhood and climb down to try to pull him up. Luckily, the SCDF arrived. So let them do the job. Bravo #SCDF."

In the comments, Sam wrote: "I heard he was trying to let go some turtles, slipped and fell into it."

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it received a call for assistance near Lorong L Telok Kurau at about 10:10am.

Using the ladder, SCDF rescued the man who declined to be taken to the hospital.
