Stranger arrested after allegedly attacking man and woman with knife at Market Street

A 26-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attacking a man and a woman with a knife along Market Street on Saturday (July 22).

The police said they were alerted to the case of assault at around 8pm.

The assailant fled from the scene after allegedly attacking a 39-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman.

The police added: "The male victim was found with multiple injuries on his face and limbs, while the female victim sustained injuries on her wrist. Both were believed to have been injured with a knife and a knife was recovered at the scene."

The two victims were conscious when taken to hospital.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the suspect's identity and arrested him at Punggol Way within 24 hours of the report.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and the victims were unknown to each other.

The suspect will be charged in court on Tuesday with voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and/or a fine and/or caning.

The police said they take a zero-tolerance approach towards such acts of violence and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
