S'porean stars in latest Black Mirror episode, also acted in Killing Eve and Spider-Man: Far From Home

The latest season of Black Mirror dropped on June 15.

The new sixth season of the anthology series on Netflix has five episodes and the final episode stars a Singaporean.

Anjana Vasan, who graduated from National University of Singapore with a degree in theatre studies, is the lead in the episode "Demon 79".

She plays a meek sales assistant in an English department store who is told by a supernatural being that she has to kill three people in three days to avert the apocalypse.

Anjana told UK newspaper The Independent in an interview: “I am someone who people have maybe underestimated. Being someone who’s quite small, you know, and brown and foreign – in many situations I have felt that feeling of being underestimated. And I do take some relish in proving people wrong.”

"Demon 79" is not Anjana's first role on Black Mirror, having appeared in the third season episode "Nosedive" with Bryce Dallas Howard.

The actress previously starred in the Peabody-winning 2021 series We Are Lady Parts about four Muslim women forming a punk rock band.

She was a regular in the final season of Killing Eve and played a reporter in a scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

In April, Anjana won a Laurence Olivier Award for best actress in a supporting role for the London stage revival of A Street Car Named Desire.

Born in Chennai, India, she moved with her family to Singapore when she was four and is now based in London.
