Stomper Jaysonn alerted Stomp to a fire that broke out at Shenton House at around 10am this morning (May 9), three months after a similar incident sent two women to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Jaysonn, who works in Shenton House, told Stomp that he smelled smoke as he was evacuating the building.

Said the Stomper:

"I could see the smoke but it wasn't thick like smog. It was almost like haze.

"There is a Fire Engine at the scene and police have cordoned off the whole area.

"A security officer told me that a dustbin on the 24th storey caught fire after someone threw a cigarette butt into it after smoking.

"Everyone around me is talking about why there is another fire in such a short time."

A spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp:

"SCDF was alerted to a fire at the 24th level of 3 Shenton Way at about 10.10am and dispatched 2 Fire engines and an ambulance.

"The fire which involved discarded items at a refuse disposal area was extinguished prior to SCDF arrival.

"There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is being investigated."
