A white MPV caught fire on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) early Thursday evening (Aug 31), causing a traffic jam.

A Stomper shared a video of firefighters putting out the fire in the emergency lane of the expressway.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Red Rhino, a tow truck and vehicles from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the police were at the scene.

Other videos of the car fire were also posted online.

At around 6pm that day, LTA sent out several tweets to advise motorists about the congestion.

In response to a Stomp query, SCDF said it was alerted to the fire on the PIE towards Tuas after the Eng Neo exit at about 5.45pm and extinguished the flames using a hosereel and a Compressed Air Foam backpack.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
