Register with cheques and $1,800 cash stolen from Bedok North coffee shop after break-in

A 65-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft at a coffee shop along Bedok North Street 3 on March 22.

The police were alerted at about 5.15am to the case where a cash register, cash amounting to approximately $1,800 and three cash cheques amounting to approximately $12,409 were purportedly stolen.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs and police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within five hours of the report.

Cash amounting to approximately $1,395 was recovered along with the cash register and cheques.

The man was charged in court on March 23 with the offence of housebreaking and theft, which carries an imprisonment of up to 10 years and with caning or fine.

The police advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good-quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while.
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables on your premises.
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTV, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
