Man, 54, faces up to 10 years' jail after being charged for breaking into temple and stealing $45 chain

A 54-year-old man was charged with housebreaking and theft at a Geylang temple on Jan 25.

The police were alerted at about 12.30pm that a temple at Lorong 16 Geylang was allegedly broken into and a chain was purportedly stolen.

Then Shen Temple is located at Lorong 16 Geylang.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs and police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him the next day.

The chain valued at approximately $45 was recovered.

The man was charged in court on Jan 27 with housebreaking and theft, which carries an imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.

You are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while.
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises.
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
