Police raid home of man who took woman's upskirt photos on escalator at Downtown MRT station

A 33-year-old man was charged in court on Thursday (Oct 12) with voyeurism after he allegedly took upskirt pictures of a woman on an escalator.

The police said they were alerted by a member of the public about the incident on Oct 10, at around 9.15am.

The man had allegedly taken upskirt photographs of a female victim while she was standing on an ascending escalator at Downtown MRT Station, towards Marina Bay Financial Centre's Tower 2.

The member of the public informed the victim of the act and the perpetrator was stopped at the end of the escalator, where he was subsequently arrested by the police.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is purportedly involved in other similar cases of voyeurism," police added.

"Two handphones were seized at the scene and a Central Processing Unit (CPU) was seized when a raid was conducted at the man’s residence."

Police investigations are ongoing.

If convicted of voyeurism, the man faces a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine and/or caning.

The police said they have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the safety of the community and added: "Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law."
