Man steals $132,000 diamond ring from Lucky Plaza pawnshop, arrested with accomplice at KL airport

A man allegedly took a three-carat diamond ring worth more than $132,000 at a Lucky Plaza pawnshop and fled when the staff was attending to his request to buy another diamond ring.

The police were alerted to the theft at the ValueMax outlet on Sunday (July 16) at about 6.27pm.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTV footages, officers from Tanglin Police Division quickly established the identities of the 48-year-old man and his male accomplice on the same day.

Both men had left Singapore for Malaysia within an hour after the police were alerted.

With co-operation and assistance rendered by the Royal Malaysia Police, both men were arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Wednesday, pursuant to warrants of arrest issued by the State Courts in Singapore on Monday.

The men were then handed over to the Singapore Police Force on Thursday.

Chinese nationals Lu Jingnan, 48, and He Yuanlin, 58, were charged in court on Friday with the offence of theft in dwelling with common intention, which carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.

They are remanded at Central Police Division, and their cases have been adjourned to July 28.
