2 cases of snatch theft in Yishun in 1 day involving gold jewellery: 2 men, aged 50 and 70, arrested

Police received two reports of snatch theft in Yishun on Friday (April 14).

One case was at Yishun Central 1, where an elderly woman's gold bracelet was allegedly snatched away by an unknown man.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the 50-year-old man and arrested him on April 15.

The gold bracelet was recovered and seized as a case exhibit.

The man was to be charged on April 17 with the offence of snatch theft, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.

For the second case, police were alerted on April 14 at 7.05pm. A man snatched a gold chain from the victim at Yishun Avenue 2.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Public Transport Security Command and Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the 70-year-old man and arrested him within eight hours of the report.

The gold chain was recovered and seized as a case exhibit.

The man will be charged on April 18.
